Coaching
Coaching Sessions
If you don’t have time for a weekend workshop or you feel your book project has already addressed many of the issues covered in our workshop, you may want to choose private telephone coaching.
What do I offer in private coaching? Take a look at the questions below and see which situation suits your project best:
1/ I have finished my book, I think I’m ready to get it published, how can you help me?
I have many clients who come to me that think their book is finished. I ask for your back page sales copy, Title and sub-title, Table of contents and chapter titles and a sample chapter. It’s pretty much what a publisher or agent will ask you for in a proposal. I’ll review what you send me and give you an honest authentic opinion on how likely it is to get accepted by a publisher or agent or how likely it would be successful as a self-published book.
I’ll be looking at your proposal in respect of the market and the reader. Who is your reader? What will they learn by reading your book? Why is your book different from all the other books out there on similar subjects? Why do you want someone to read your book? What is the purpose of your book? Is this a hobby, passion or are you using your book as a platform for your business or speaking career? Does the cover text and design explain clearly the answers to all these questions? Is the language of your book suitable for the reader you have in mind?
Case Study:
Dr Gerry Fewster had just completed his fourth book. An expert in his field of child psychology and parenting he was frustrated that his Academic publishers wanted to change his book content. He came to me for a second opinion. When I asked him who his reader was, he thought long and hard before realizing he wanted this book to be read by parents. That’s one reason his publisher wanted the content changing, all his other books had been written for Academics, this one was obviously different. I then advised him he was going to need to do some re-writes to make this really parent friendly, he still had lots of academic language in it and it read more like a text book.
Gerry had five one hour coaching sessions with me, in each session I went through his chapters and highlighted where his language was not parent friendly and asked questions for clarification where his text was unclear. We pulled out quotations into “Side-bars” to make the text easier to read (and scan) and we divided the complicated long passages of text into shorter chapters with interesting chapter titles.
We changed the Title and sub-title to “Don’t Let your Kids be Normal” from “Between Child and Parent” and wrote a powerful back page sales copy using some of the powerful quotations we had pulled from the text. I was so happy with the end result I sent the book to my UK publisher and they offered him a publishing contract under my own publishing imprint of Influence Publishing.
2/ I have not finished my book but I’m half way through and I have a pretty clear plan of my goals. How can you help me?
I’m going to approach this pretty much in the same way as question 1, accept, you have the advantage that you won’t have to do all the re-writes! You’ll only need to re-write some of the chapters you’ve already written and review your purpose and writing style to complete the book. I’ll review your new chapters as you write them to make sure you’re still on track with the new back page sales copy we’ll write together. This way you know you’re clear on the purpose and reader of your book as you write. I’ll then help you get a publisher because I’ll intimately understand your book and which publisher it will fit best with.
3/ I’m just beginning, I have some idea of what I’d like to write or I have journal notes or pictures that represent ideas. I’m just not sure how to organize those ideas and content I have into a book.
You’ll need the complete system and I recommend you purchase the home study kit – it comes complete with a 76 page workbook and worksheets we’ll work through on the telephone coaching sessions. If you want to see it right through to the end I suggest you purchase the special coaching package which includes 8 x 30 min coaching sessions for just $495
Frequently asked questions:
Q. I have had messages and images channeled to me and I am passionate about this subject, I’m just not sure where to start organizing all this material and mumble jumble in a way other people understand.
A. If you feel your purpose is as a messenger or light worker, your job is to take that information and then translate and present it in a way that 1000’s of people can understand and benefit from. Simply writing down the channeled information is for your benefit only, to be of service you need to be able to transcribe it and transform it into a book that will attract the right reader who needs the information. This workshop is reader focused to ensure you understand the purpose of your book and how to get that message out.
Q. I only have vague ideas and I’m not even sure if it is enough to be a book
A. If you want it to be a book we will draw out from you and organize your thoughts and ideas into content during the InspireABook 2 day weekend workshop – guaranteed!
Q. I’m not sure my subject is “interesting enough” or unique enough. Why would anyone want to read my story?
A. We are all unique and have unique experiences, other people learn from other people’s experiences and how they have overcome them. Maybe you are a cancer survivor or overcome an illness or disability, maybe you have raised gifted children that have been labeled as “not normal”, or maybe you simply overcame a painful divorce and went on to learn to love yourself. The way we dealt with our life can serve other people going through similar challenges and your story can inspire and help other people who can identify with your story and say “that’s me, I’m there, how can I get out of this, how did YOU get out of this?”
Q. I don’t really want to write a book but I would like to leave a “legacy” for my children
A. A legacy is a book, even if it’s only 100 pages. You can print just one book if you like, or 20 for all your siblings. A book does not have to be printed in the 100o’s with new technology, but you do owe it to your children to present your story as professionally as possible if you want it to be a legacy you leave behind with pride
Q. What is unique about the InspireABook program?
What I offer is completely unique, I specialise in spiritual writers who often do not even consider themselves writers, but appreciate that the platform of a book is the best way to spread the message to thousands. I help light workers to translate their message into a book so that it can reach more people.
Q. Why do you think your work stands out against other people?
I am living my purpose. I am passionate about what I do so I have a 100% success rate with everyone I help. This is my unique talent to inspire 1000’s to write and publish their inspirational positive message to thousands.
Q. My writing/story is not good enough to be published.
Everyone has a unique ability and if you write authentically from the heart your writing will be the best there is. If you are worried about your grammar and spelling that is a job for editors, your job is to speak your message on paper.
Q. What are the inside secrets about getting published?
The publishing industry is changing drastically. In the last 5 years we no longer buy records or CD’s from record shops, and our favorite movies now are from Independent Directors and producers, not the big movie houses. Publishing is moving in this direction and now 6 in every 10 books is sold on line. This means it’s even more difficult to break into as a new first time author unless you a savy about the internet market.
Q. What if I’ve just got ideas or a picture about my book but nothing else?
I love it when someone comes to a workshop and says “I’ve just got a picture that was channeled to me, or I’ve just got an idea that came to me in a dream” and in 2 days they’ve written the synopsis, table of contents and mapped the content for each chapter. So they leave knowing exactly what their book is about and how to approach it!
Q. What if I really can not write, would you tell me?
I am living my purpose so my top priority is to be of service to those that need my help to spread their word as a light worker. I will always be authentic and honest, even if that means telling someone they need to educate themselves more before they are able to write and publish their book.
Q. Why you? Why are you qualified to help me? How did you get into this business?
I was in exactly the same position as you 7 years ago. People kept telling me my story was very inspirational and interesting and that I should write a book. I did not consider myself a writer so I didn’t know where to start. I spent 2 years researching and attending workshops and seminars to learn how to do it, then I wrote and published my own book and decided I could come up with an easier method to help people.
The InspireABook Workshop and workbook – everything you need to get your book written, published and marketed!
What will you learn?
What kind of book are you writing? Who is your reader? Why do you want them to read it? What will they learn? This will help you get a tight focus for your book, enable you to present your “sales pitch” and work on the outline for your book.
Class Two – Creating the Title Pages
“We are not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but we do!”. If your book does not look professional inside and out you lose your credibility and book stores will not stock your book. Use the InspireABook™ templates to produce a professional layout just like the mainstream publishers! We will teach you how to write a winning back page sales copy and pick a winning title and cover.
Class Three – Organizing the Chapters and Content
The InspireABook™ binder gives you a simple “build your book” template to organize and capture your moments of inspiration.
Class Four – Review, Chapter Titles and Layout
Is your book organized chronologically by memorable moments or key points? Have you used quotations, photographs, letters and journal notes? How do you decide what size your book should be, what font to use, how wide your margins should be, as well as the placement of headers, footers and titles?
Class Five – Getting Ready for Publishing – Edits & Reviews
If you think your book is finished, think again! Learn how to do your own first draft edit, content edit, peer review, fact check, second draft evaluation, final proof read, and save money on professional editing services.
Class Six – Publishing Layout and Format
Setting your page size and margins to suit your book size, getting the digital file ready for printing.
Class Seven – The Marketing Plan
Take control of your own book! Don’t pay for the services of an expensive publicist when you can do it yourself! Most big publishing houses don’t tell you that your advance will barely cover the cost of your book tour accommodation and transportation. Did you know that traditional publishers expect a marketing plan with the submission of your manuscript and probably won’t even look at it without one? Did you know that the average royalty works out to around $1 a book and you sign over all the rights?
If you want to be discovered learn how to market yourself to get noticed! Mark Twain, Beatrix Potter and Margaret Atwood all self-published their first book and took control of their own destiny!
Class Eight – How to get TV/Radio/Newspaper interviews
Bookstores might make your book available, but it’s up to you to drive people there to buy it! It is up to you to create the demand! Your local media loves to report on their local authors and we show you how to write a press release and where to send it.
