FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – about InspireABook and Influence Publishing

FAQ: Am I giving you the rights to my book if I publish and distribute through you?

No, you are “licensing” the rights to us for the duration of our publishing and distribution contract, usually 3 years from signing.

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW, you keep your rights outright and do not sign a 3 year contract!

FAQ: What price do I buy my books at when I want to buy copies for my own events?

We like to keep things simple so we sell to you at the wholesale price – retail price less 50%

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW you buy the books at print cost!  Saving 50%!

FAQ: How many books do I have to sell before I see a return in my investment?

On a typical book that retails at $20 you purchase copies of your book at $10 – so every book you sell at your events you make $10. If you use level one and level two service that is less than 500 books before you cover your initial costs.

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW you buy your books at print cost – so you make $15 a book – equivalent now to 266 books ROI!

FAQ: What royalty do I make when I sell my book on Amazon or at a book store?

Book stores usually take 40%-45% discount off retail but bigger chains like Amazon, Chapters and grocery chains can take up to 60% discount. That does not leave much left over for the author and publisher once you take off the print cost.

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW you do not share the profit with your publisher!  Saving 40%!

Example A: With traditional publishers like Influence Publishing Inc that use distributors to “sell” books to head office buyers, extra costs are involved because the publisher has to print stock for their warehouse and then there is extra cost shipping to the retailer. The other disadvantage of this is that all retailers only accept sale or return, so the publisher expects at least 30% returns. These are often damaged and cannot be resold.

Influence Publishing Inc and other comparable independent or traditional publishers have these extra costs that come off your bottom line so they can only afford to give the author a 40% profit share to cover these costs.

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW we only supply POD – so we do not charge you 40%

Example B: InspireABook Publishing coaching model for publishing uses print on demand technology using Ingram distribution, which means the extra distribution costs of printing, warehousing and distribution/shipping does not apply. For this reason we can offer a bigger royalty share of 60% to the author, as we do not have these costs to cover. See example B to understand what difference this makes to the bottom line of profit share to the author.

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW the author gets 100% of the profit!

FAQ: I can tell that there could be additional expenses when walking the path of publishing the book. For example, having to purchase 500 copies of the book, extra sessions, hiring someone to do the revision of the book, etc. Do you have an estimate cost of the total investment if I decide to do it? I am totally new and have zero idea of all the things needed.

The 500 books can be purchased at any time in any quantity over the 3 year term of the contract for your own use at speaking engagements etc.  You should not be out of pocket if you plan your events and how many you will sell at each event, as you make approx $10 per book profit when you sell them this way, covering your initial investment.  As for editing, we have a special negotiated rate of $1500 CAD for a full structural and content edit, $1300 CAD for content edit only and approx $400 CAD for proof reading.  Other costs are marketing opportunities for collaborative projects such as shared trade show space, blog tours, social media advertising or offers etc…all optional.

HOT NEWS!  We have changed our publishing model as of August 1st – NOW the author has NO commitment to buy books from us – YOU buy direct from the printer in whatever quantity you want, when you want!   Saving you thousands of dollars!

FAQ: Another thing, is there a specific time/date when this process should start? Which I assume would involve having the investment ready.

The sooner you start the better, we can keep you accountable for your writing goals and launch plan!  Ask about payment plans if you would like to spread your costs as you work on your book.
